Description

OxyPRAS Plus Bacteroides Bile Esculin (BBE) Agar, enriched with hemin and Vitamin K, is intended for the selective isolation of Bacteroides fragilis group organisms from clinical specimens.

BBE Agar selectively inhibits the growth of most Gram-negative facultative anaerobes through gentamicin and bile, while promoting the growth of Bacteroides species. In addition, esculin hydrolysis produces black colonies for clear presumptive identification, enhanced by catalase testing.

This medium is manufactured pre-reduced anaerobically sterilized (PRAS) using the Oxyrase Enzyme System, imparting significantly increased recovery of fastidious microorganisms not seen in traditional media, as well as unprecedented workflow flexibility for anaerobic culture methodology.
