How to read this list

What the list is, and what it is not

These organisms have been reported in the published literature to grow in broth and agar media supplemented with the Oxyrase Enzyme System. Clicking a name runs a literature search for that organism alongside Oxyrase, so you can read the source rather than take our word for it.

It is a record of what has been reported, not a performance guarantee. Appearing here does not mean a given Oxyrase product is validated for that organism, and it does not substitute for your own verification. Conditions in the source papers vary widely, from 0.5 percent to 10 percent enzyme depending on the organism and the format, so the concentration that worked for one group is a starting point rather than a protocol. The product inserts give the working range for each format.

Growth also depends on the redox state the medium actually reaches, which is a separate question from how it was manufactured. That is covered on the ORP specification page.

The list also grows by contribution. Where a laboratory has isolated something on Oxyrase media and reported it to us directly, the entry sits in a Reported by laboratories block inside its group, credited to whoever sent it, so you can tell at a glance which entries came from the literature and which came from a bench. If you have grown something that is not here, tell us and we will add it.

Expanded and revised, September 2026

The list had not been revised since 2015. We searched the 2015 to 2026 literature for organisms grown in media supplemented with Oxyrase, Oxyrase for Broth, Oxyrase for Agar, OxyPRAS Plus, OxyPlate and EC Oxyrase, and added 56 that were not previously recorded. An organism was added only where the publication used an Oxyrase product as the growth medium for that organism. Where it was used as a transport medium, a suspension buffer or to hold cells during an assay, we left it off. Entries reported directly by a laboratory, with no publication behind them, are kept in a separate block within their group and are not linked out.

Every name was then checked against the List of Prokaryotic names with Standing in Nomenclature. 45 entries carry their current accepted name, with the previously published name shown beneath so older papers remain findable. Where a newer combination exists but LPSN still recommends the older name for medical use, we kept the recommended name and noted what sequencing and MALDI-TOF databases are likely to report instead.

Working with an organism we have not listed?

If you have grown something in Oxyrase-supplemented media, or you know of a publication we have missed, send it over and we will add it. If you are choosing a format for your own work, Oxyrase for Broth, Oxyrase for Agar and EC Oxyrase suit different setups, and we can point you to the right one.
