Oxyrase at SCACM Ohio 2025

Thanks for stopping by our booth! Below is a quick overview of the Oxyrase products we featured and how they can make anaerobic culture easier in your lab. You’ll find detailed highlights of OxyPRAS Plus plates, OxyPlates, and Oxyrase for Broth, along with links to schedule a meeting, download product flyers, and watch demo videos.

A Quick Recap of our Offerings…

OxyPRAS Plus® Plates

OxyPRAS Plus plates are pre-reduced (PRAS) blood agar media designed for isolating obligate anaerobes. PRAS means they are prepared and sterilized under oxygen-free conditions, so they arrive fully anaerobic and ready to use. For example, our Brucella Blood Agar is enriched with blood, hemin and vitamin K to maximize recovery of fastidious anaerobes.

Because the Oxyrase enzyme system is used during manufacturing, these plates deliver significantly higher recovery of anaerobes (especially fastidious or injured cells) compared to conventional media.

Key benefits of OxyPRAS Plus plates include:

  • Ready-to-use: Each plate is fully reduced upon arrival – no need for a chamber, jar, or extra gassing step.

  • Superior recovery: The oxygen-free prep (PRAS) prevents toxic oxidative byproducts, so you’ll grow more of the anaerobes you’re looking for.

  • Stable and convenient: Plates remain anaerobic for up to ~2 hours even if briefly exposed, and they work with automated streakers (no end-user QC required).

OxyPlates™

OxyPlates are self-contained, resealable anaerobic culture plates that eliminate the need for bulky jars or gas packs. With an OxyPlate, you can inoculate, incubate, and check cultures using your normal incubator workflow:

  • No jars or gas needed: Each plate creates an anaerobic chamber in the dish itself. Simply prepare the plate on the bench (in ambient air) and close it up.

  • Simple 3-step process: (1) Streak your specimen on the plate as usual, (2) place the lid on the base and turn to engage the unique track-&-key seal, (3) Incubate the sealed plate in a standard incubator.

  • Resealable: Need to check growth? The plate can be opened and re-closed without losing anaerobiosis – the anaerobic conditions automatically regenerate each time. This lets you handle isolates one by one instead of batch-processing.

  • Validated performance: Independent studies found OxyPlates grow essentially the same or more anaerobes as a traditional chamber.

In short, OxyPlates streamline your anaerobic workflow: streak and seal at your bench, then incubate normally. You’ll save space and labor (no chambers/jars to maintain) while reliably culturing anaerobes.

Oxyrase® for Broth

Oxyrase for Broth is our liquid culture supplement that instantly creates anaerobic broth conditions with just a drop. Key features:

  • Easy add-on: It’s a sterile enzyme blend – just add Oxyrase® for Broth to your growth medium. There’s no mixing required, and it comes ready-to-use.

  • Quick anaerobiosis: About 10–15 minutes after adding, the broth becomes fully anaerobic. No need to boil tubes or use gas packs.

  • Universal: The formula contains Oxyrase enzymes plus co-factors so it works in any bacteriological broth. It’s great for routine subcultures or reviving lyophilized anaerobes.

  • Convenient dosing: Typically use ~1 drop per mL of broth. Once added, Oxyrase® continuously scavenges oxygen from the liquid and headspace over time.

This means you can grow anaerobes in broth exactly like you would aerobes – just prepare your broth, drop in the Oxyrase, and incubate. It’s fast, reliable, and much simpler than traditional boil-and-purge methods.
