Description
Elevate your anaerobic microbiology with PEA (Phenyl ethyl Alcohol) Blood Agar OxyPlate™. A selective, pre-reduced anaerobically sterilized (PRAS) medium enriched with defibrinated sheep blood.
Intended for the isolation of gram-positive anaerobic bacteria from clinical specimens, this medium uses phenyl ethyl alcohol to inhibit facultative gram-negative bacteria and prevent Proteus spp. swarming, ensuring clear isolation of fastidious anaerobes like Clostridium spp. and non-spore-forming gram-positive cocci.
The self-contained OxyPlate™ eliminates the hassle of anaerobic jars, bags, or chambers, delivering seamless, equipment-free anaerobiosis for enhanced efficiency and precision in microbiology workflows.
Features and Benefits
- Patented OxyDish™ design with external track and internal lid keys for effortless opening and closing, preserving the anaerobic seal without damage or condensation issues.
- Self-contained anaerobiosis generated and regenerated up to 5 times directly in the plate, allowing incubation in any standard aerobic or CO2 incubator.
- Resealable for multiple openings and closings, automatically restoring oxygen-free conditions to minimize wasted material, reduce costs, and extend usability during extended workflows.
- Integrated ring seal that contacts the agar surface for airtight protection, supporting prolonged stability and consistent performance.
- Streamlined anaerobic workup, with the fundamentally simpler workflow, Inoculate – Incubate – Investigate.
- On-demand plate inspection, akin to aerobic culture.
- Handle OxyPlates individually, avoiding the batched format inherent to anaerobic culture.
- Streamlines subculturing and primary isolation by enabling aerobic incubation of sealed plates, reducing setup time and operational costs compared to traditional methods.
Storage and Handling
Storage: Plates arrive at room temperature and should be stored at 2-8°C, with a 3-month expiration from the date of manufacture.
Instructions for use: Allow plates to warm to room temperature before opening. Handle aseptically by the sides to maintain the seal. To open, position upright, apply light downward pressure on the lid, and turn counterclockwise to lift. Streak or inoculate as needed, then close by turning clockwise until sealed (ring contacts agar). Invert (base up, lid down) and incubate aerobically. Plates can be opened resealed up to 5 times while regenerating anaerobiosis. Include an indicator like OxyBlue™ inside to verify conditions. OxyPlates should only be stacked with other OxyPlates.
