Description
OxyPRAS Plus Bacteroides Bile Esculin (BBE) Agar enriched with hemin and Vitamin K, is intended to be used in the selective isolation of Bacteroides fragilis group organisms from clinical specimens.
BBE Agar selectively inhibits the growth of most gram-negative facultative anaerobes through gentamicin and oxbile, while promoting the growth of Bacteroides species. In addition, esculin hydrolysis produces black colonies for clear presumptive identification, enhanced by catalase testing.
This media is manufactured pre-reduced anaerobically sterilized(PRAS) using the Oxyrase Enzyme System, imparting significantly increased recovery of fastidious microorganisms not seen in traditional media, as well as unprecedented workflow flexibility for anaerobic culture methodology.
Features and Benefits
- Manufactured PRAS and packaged in oxygen-impermeable pouches.
- Arrives ready-to-use, no post-reduction required.
- Enhanced recovery of fastidious and ‘injured’ cells, leading to higher diagnostic accuracy.
- Contributes to lower cumulative healthcare costs – ask for our white paper.
- Prolonged stability resisting inhibitory oxidation of the media for up to 2 hours when exposed to ambient oxygen.
- Best choice for integration with automated streaking platforms.
- Faster, more luxuriant growth when compared to competitors.
- No end user QC: Exempt per the CLSI M22-A3 Standard.
Storage and Handling
- Storage: Plates should be stored at 2-8°C and expire 4 months from the date of manufacture.
- Instructions for use: Allow plates to warm to room temperature before use. After inoculation, invert plates and incubate in an anaerobic bag, jar, or chamber. An appropriate indicator should be used to confirm anaerobiosis.
